Council Highlights

Council governs the College and works in the public interest to regulate the dietetic profession in Ontario to ensure the public has access to safe, ethical and competent nutrition care, in keeping with the objects listed in the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991.

MARCH 2022

  • Council reviewed the 2022-23 Strategic Plan Monitoring Report and discussed the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in relation to these activities. Council also discussed accomplishments from the 2021-22 work plans.
  • Council approved the draft budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year with no increase in membership fees.
  • Council approved the final Insulin Position Statement and Practice Guidelines, and approved the draft policy on Determining Currency Hours in Dietetic Practice for Registered Dietitians, with the Definition of Practising Dietetics as proposed, for consultation.
  • Council reviewed the 2021 College Performance Measurement Framework Report (CPMF) and commended staff on its effort in completing the report.
  • Council approved the Risk Management Policy Statement and reviewed the first quarterly Risk Monitoring Report.
  • Council confirmed the Governance Committee slate and approved a motion to amend the Governance Committee Terms of Reference to include Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED) responsibilities.
  • As part of an environmental scan of future workspace options, Lennard Commercial Real Estate provided Council with an overview of the Toronto commercial office leasing market, and the College of Dietitians British Colombia (CDBC) presented the CDBC’s working experience in an office space shared by other regulatory colleges.

DECEMBER 2021

  • Council approved a motion to append the Rules of Order as an appendix to the Governance Manual.
  • Council approved a draft position statement in principle on Insulin Dose Adjustments as recommended by the Professional Practice Committee and to circulate the draft for stakeholder feedback.
  • Council received training on risk management and building a risk-based, decision-making culture from John Risk of John Risk Law. Council discussed its current risk register and directed the Registrar to develop a risk policy and risk monitoring report for its consideration at a subsequent meeting.
  • Council approved a motion to strike a new, ad-hoc Governance Committee and approve its terms of reference.
  • Council participated in an in-depth educational session led by George Couchie on Land Acknowledgement and Indigenous culture as part of the College’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDI-B) initiative. See the College’s Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) webpage for more details.

SEPTEMBER 2021

  • Council President and Chair Kerri LaBrecque, RD honored September 30 as the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Allison Henry, Director of Health Workforce Regulatory Oversight at Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care, presented to Council upcoming changes to health regulation, and their impact on how Colleges regulate.
  • Dr. Javeed Sukhera provided an update to Council on the work done by the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDI-B) task force.
  • Council approved a motion directing staff to create a new investment policy that will factor in Council’s tolerance level of market risk, define what investments are acceptable, and determine the allocation of the investments.
  • Council received an update on the Governance Modernization Project. Following a request for proposals from governance modernization consultants, the College is in the process of receiving expressions of interest.
