Welcome to New Committee Appointees

We welcome Megan Charlish RD, and Barbara Major McEwan RD,  who have been appointed to the new Professional Practice Committee.  This committee replaces the Legislative Issues Committee and, in addition to dealing with legislative issues, will  make recommendations to Council regarding professional practice standards, policies and guidelines relevant to the practice of dietetics (e.g. legalization of recreational cannabis and its impact on dietetic practice, position statements on scope of practice, and delegation standards).

Megan Charlish, MPH, RD

 
Megan completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition & Food at Ryerson University and a Master of Public Health in Nutrition & Dietetics at the University of Toronto. Megan is passionate about evidence-based nutrition and health policies and has focused her career on developing and implementing policies and programs that support health and prevent chronic disease at the population level. She has held policy and program positions across several ministries within the provincial government and in the non-profit sector.
 
Megan has supported the College’s Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition process since 2016 and is excited to be joining the Professional Practice Committee to continue her work for safe, ethical, and competent dietetic practice across Ontario.

Barbara Major-McEwan, RD, PHEc, CPA, CMA, MHSc, CHE

Barbara Major-McEwan received her BSc from Brescia College, Western University and completed her dietetic internship at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. She is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), and holds a Certified Health Executive designation. She also completed a Masters of Health Science (MHSc) from the University of Toronto (Health Policy Management Evaluation Program). She is a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Currently, Barbara is the Chief Financial Officer, Listowel and Wingham Hospitals, and Manager Nutrition and Food Services/Advisor, Wingham and District Hospital. Barbara is a regulatory representative for the PDEP dietetics accreditation program. 
 
Barbara served as a Council Member at the College from June 2010 to June 2016, with two years as Vice President and one year as President of the College and she also served on the Registration Committee for six years. She looks forward to working on the Professional Practice Committee in the interest of the public.
