EARLIER this year, CDO’s Governance Committee recommended to the Board that the term limits for elected board directors and committee members will be reduced from nine consecutive years (three three-year terms) to six consecutive years (two three-year terms). This proposal is consistent with CDO’s broader efforts to modernize its governance structure in accordance with best practices aimed at strengthening public trust in the regulatory framework.
Registrants and system partners were consulted on the proposed change, and the feedback was overwhelmingly in agreement. Shorter term limits would allow for the infusion of new ideas and diverse perspectives while also providing more opportunities for other registrants to become involved.
On June 20, 2025, CDO’s Board of Directors approved the motion to amend Bylaw 1, officially reducing the maximum term for elected board directors and committee members from nine to six consecutive years, which will take effect in 2026.
