Protecting the Public
THE COLLEGE OF DIETITIANS OF ONTARIO REGULATES DIETITIANS FOR PUBLIC PROTECTION.
The College of Dietitians of Ontario is a regulatory body. We are not an education facility. Our mandate is to ensure that dietitians follow the laws and dietetic practice standards so the public can have access to safe, ethical and quality nutrition services.
How We Protect the Public
- We register only individuals who meet our standards for certification to practice dietetics in Ontario.
- We develop and implement standards of practice to ensure that Ontarions obtain safe, ethical and competent nutrition services from dietitians.
- We monitor dietitians through our quality assurance program to make sure they keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date.
- The Register of Dietitians is posted on our website to help you verify the status of a dietitian registered to practice in Ontario.
- If you have a concern or complaint about your dietitian, you can call us for help.
- Our Patient Relations Program provides information and services to help the public understand their rights as consumers of dietetic services.
- We publish discipline decisions and reasons on our website and on the public Register of Dietitians.
