Publié le 20 December 2022

UPDATE: Survey deadline extended! We need your feedback on social media and virtual care draft standards and guidelines.

Note: The deadline for these surveys has been extended to January 31, 2023.

The CDO Board of Directors has approved two new proposed draft standards and guidelines for dietitians, and we are seeking your input:

  1. Draft Virtual Care Standards and Guidelines for Registered Dietitians in Ontario (Survey)
  2. Draft Social Media Standards and Practice Guidelines for Registered Dietitians in Ontario (Survey)
Standards provide minimum expectations for dietitians
These standards and practice guidelines provide key principles for virtual care and social media practice and set out expectations for the professional conduct of dietitians.

In December 2022, the Board approved these Drafts for the purposes of consultation. We welcome your feedback and want your voice heard to inform revisions to these standards and guidelines. Your input is valuable and will be carefully considered by the Professional Practice Committee, staff and Board.

We recognize that current circumstances may make participating in consultations difficult. If you cannot respond to the consultation before the closing date of January 31, 2023, please let us know so we can accommodate you. We are committed to ensuring that individuals and organizations who wish to respond can do so.

How you can give feedback
1. Complete one or both surveys online – virtual care survey & social media survey.
OR
2. Email your feedback in English or French to Diane Candiotto and Samantha Thiessen, Practice Advisors & Policy Analysts at: diane.candiotto@collegeofdietitians.org and samantha.thiessen@collegeofdietitians.org

We appreciate your feedback and will be evaluating the Standards 1-year post-implementation (2023). We look forward to hearing how you have been applying these Standards and what, if anything, can be improved or further clarified. Please stay tuned for details!

Thank you for your feedback on recent consultations!

We appreciate your time and the feedback you provided to the College during these recent consultations:

QA Program Peer and Practice Assessment (PPA) - The consultation provided insights to determine the aspects of the PPA program that may require changes. The consultation also informed registrants about right-touch regulation, responsive and reflexive quality assurance, the code of professional ethics, and registrants’ roles and responsibilities in professional self-regulation. With your input, we have identified ways to redesign the College’s approach to PPA, making it more meaningful, effective, and user-friendly. Look out for more information in the New Year 2023.

Practising Dietetics: Policy on Determining Currency Hours - All eligible members of the College of Dietitians of Ontario annually declare whether they have practiced dietetics for 500 hours or more in the previous three-year period. The consultation results contributed to developing the Policy on Determining Currency Hours. The Policy clarifies what activity or task counts as a practice hour, including the revised definition of practising dietetics, the new Integrated Competencies for Dietetic Education and Practice and the new Practising Under the Delegation of Controlled Act Standards.

Further, the Policy makes it easier for dietitians to continue redeployed work in the current environment and thus likely reduce economic burdens. In addition, the Policy will make it more flexible for registrants (e.g., parents, especially women, with childcare responsibilities; racialized or internationally trained practitioners having difficulty obtaining paid employment) to meet the currency hours requirement.

Insulin Adjustment Position Statement – The consultation results contributed to developing the Position Statement and Practice Guidelines, which will support the College in keeping pace with emerging best practices in how the College effectively administers its Professional Practice program components. Changes align with the Right Touch Regulation and are important considerations given the recent focus on reporting the College Performance Measurement Framework Measures required by the Ministry of Health.

We appreciate your feedback and will be evaluating the Standards 1-year post-implementation (2023). We look forward to hearing how you have been applying these Standards and what, if anything, can be improved or further clarified. Please stay tuned for details!
