CDO has relaunched the Peer and Practice Assessment (PPA) to better meet the needs of registrants and strengthen public protection.
We heard your feedback. Following research and consultation, the PPA has resumed with a randomized selection process and fully virtual assessments, making participation more accessible while maintaining a strong focus on quality assurance and risk management.
What is the PPA?
The PPA is a key component of CDO’s Quality Assurance Program. It supports dietitians in maintaining continuing competence and promoting quality improvement through assessment and coaching.
Selected registrants participate in an assessment and learning process that allows them to:
- Reflect on their practice
- Receive peer feedback
- Demonstrate their commitment to safe, ethical, and competent care
What’s changed?
The updated PPA model includes:
- Fully virtual assessments
Providing increased flexibility and accessibility - Refined selection using practice indicators
A stratified, randomized approach that promotes fairness and focuses on potential areas of risk - Removal of multisource feedback
Reducing administrative burden while maintaining effectiveness - Guided self-reflection and peer-supported chart review
Supporting meaningful learning through structured peer discussion
What are practice indicators?
Practice indicators are quality assurance metrics used to inform the selection process. Examples include:
- Performing controlled acts or delegations
- Temporary or casual employment
- Having three or more employers
- Solo practice or self-employment
- More than 20 years since graduation
- Recently registered (2–5 years)
These indicators help identify where additional professional support or development may be beneficial. This approach ensures the PPA remains fair, evidence-informed, and focused on enhancing both individual practice and public safety.
What does this mean for selected dietitians?
Registered Dietitians will be randomly selected and notified in late spring. Assessments will take place between April and October.
