Standards and Guidance for Dietetic Practice
In Ontario, the law sets out the responsibilities, powers and procedures for the College of Dietitians of Ontario to regulate the profession of dietetics in the interest of public protection.
The College works for the public to ensure that dietitians are qualified to offer safe, competent and ethical dietetic services.
Standards, Guidelines and Information for Dietitians
- Offers guidance for dietitians when they need help with ethical or professional issues, dietitians are encouraged to contact the College’s Practice Advisory Service.
- Provides standards, guidelines and policies to inform dietetic practice.
- Informs dietitians about topical practice issues and developments in law that affect their practice through its website and quarterly newsletter.
- Plans teleconferences to help dietitians connect with each other and to the College to discuss professional practice issues.
- Organizes workshops, face-to-face meetings and webinars annually to discuss College programs and professional practice issues.
- Provides speakers for conferences and special events to speak about College business and jurisprudence related to dietetics in Ontario. Contact us for more information.
Registration
The Registration Program sets the requirements for entry to practice and ensures that only qualified people become registered. Dietitians can maintain their membership if they comply with College requirements and continue to demonstrate their competence, good character and conduct.
Quality Assurance and Continuing Competence
All dietitians, regardless of their employment status or area of practice are required to participate in the Quality Assurance Program to ensure continuing competence. Dietitians practicing and/or residing out-of-province are also included.
