Dietitian – A Restricted Title
The letters “RD” or the title “Registered Dietitian” means that the health professional is registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario. Only individuals registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario can use the titles dietitian, Registered Dietitian, a variation or abbreviation or an equivalent in another language. The law restricts these titles. People using them inappropriately can be fined up to $50,000.
All members of the College must ensure that they are clearly identified as a dietitian when practising dietetics by using the title of “Registered Dietitian” or the designation of “RD”, or the French equivalent, “diététiste professionel(le)” and “Dt.P.”
Verify that a dietitian is registered with the College by consulting our Register of Dietitians.
If you find that an individual is claiming to be a dietitian and that they are not registered with the College, please contact our Director of Registration.
